2019 24hr Le Mans

Post by Wolfman's Brother » Sat Jun 15, 2019 12:36 pm

Quick heads up that the 24hrs of Le Mans is on Velocity network and Velocity Go app this weekend.

Current coverage is heavy on the GTE-Pro class and the video coming through of Porsche, Ferrari, and Corvette running in a fuel saving train is pretty tits.

Turn it on, get a beer, and root for Merica.

I guess gone are the days when the LM cars look good. These new ones look fucking stupid.

#64 Corvette just crashed out. Oliver Gavin (next driver) looked pretty angry.

Do they have a black driver in this race? I am only watching if it does.

The Toyotas dominated the entire race and finished 1-2.

The #64 Corvette crashed out about 6 hours in.

The #63 Corvette was behind, but in contention until Jan Magnussen spun in the Porsche curves on an - out-lap, causing damage that required a cost to the pits (losing about 5 minutes) with less than an hour to go.

Ferrari won GTE-pro

Nice to see Toyota win. I was sad when the Darth Vader cars didnt pull it off in the late 90s

In 2016, when it mattered, when Porsche was there - Toyota couldn't pull it off.

With Porsche out, Toyota went 1-2 in 2018 and 2019.

How badass would the GT40s dominating in the 1960s have been - if Ferrari WASN'T there??

A Ford GT40 won the GTE AM. Ford didn't do to bad in the GTE Pro either. Next year they maybe able to win it.

2019 was last year for Ford in GTEpro. There'll still be a few in the AM classification though

I saw the incident. He got the door closed on him way too late for him to do anything about it. Looked like a pretty hard hit.

I did not see any of the ending coverage as to where the 63 ended up.

Looked like Ferrari won GTE, but the Ford GT guys had a nice final showing.

I will admit, watching a Corvette front brake change was impressive. They changed front rotors about 6 seconds faster than they could gas up.

I believe it was 35 seconds to change the front brakes.

I can definitely see the argument for this being simply a "racing incident".

However, I can also see the argument for it being on account of an over-aggressive (particularly for 18 hours to go) maneuver.

Fassler obviously had a good head of steam and wanted to squirt past the slower GTE-AM Porsche. He had every right to do it, and the Porsche shoulda/coulda been aware there was faster traffic approaching. There was even room on the apex for the Corvette, and he coulda pulled it off had the Porsche not turned in.

However, you won't convince me that it wasn't a bone-head move on Fassler's part. I mean, with an hour to go in the race, you take chances like that - but with 18 to go?? He coulda hung back and easily overtook on the straight before the the Ford chicanes, if not in the chicane itself.

Magnussen spun the #63 car late in the race, and that ended up costing several minutes in the pits - which cost a ton of track position with the competitiveness of the GTE-Pro class.

Ford GT definitely had a good showing. That car has done very well for itself!

The 911 driver let the other two fast cars go through in the same manner, and left the door open for the Corvette to pass through.

I think it's BS that Fassler was fined 7,000 Euro and received a license penalty. He was doing the right thing. The Amateur driver messed up.

I didn't realize Fassler was fined/penalized for this incident. That's a buncha BS.
