3000hp dyno catastrophe

Post by Bateman » Mon Sep 21, 2020 4:17 pm

Not really a fan of the guys, but I’ve been into the diesel shit for a couple years now. This right here was wild. Prior to this run the owner told the crowd to back up and that he was about to lay into it. Could’ve been horrific but everyone escaped. Driver had some burns and blisters but that’s all.

Watch this shit.

Something like 150+ psi of boost and ain’t no telling how much nitrous.

BTW, over 3000hp has and is done I’m pulling trucks. They just know better than to strap them to a dyno or try running them down a drag strip.

He sent that planetary gear into orbit. /rob joke.

1 horsepower (hp) = 745.70 joules per second

3000 hp = 2,237,100 joules.

1 stick of dynomyte = 1,000,000 joules.

Yeap, shit went booooom. Harley needs that next to his mailbox next 4th of july.

Nice unit conversion Mike. That certainly does put another perspective on it.

Amazing the driver wasn't more seriously hurt with the transmission explosion. I've seen a couple other dyno operators wearing fire suits for the big power cars. Makes one a little skittish to see these things.

They should have been in full gear and the engine should have been cabled down and blanketed as any of the other big power diesels are. Hopefully a lesson learned.

Also 500 hp per hole. That is an intense amount of power. I think read where it was a trans failure that led to systematic failure.

That was speculation I thought. Zack Hamilton mentioned some damage around the cam bore. Where most Cummins blocks split. I’m not positive though.

It was a metric shit ton of nitrous I know dat!

I’ve heard they tickled it with over 1000hp worth. Again, not positive on that, just what the guys on the diesel forum have discussed.
