Radial Fest - May 2015

Post by chevy408 » Tue Feb 03, 2015 10:36 am

It looks like the Radial Fest event has outgrown the street car class. Here is a quote from their FB page:
Will there be a street car class at the May race ? Rules ? Thanks
Radial Fest wrote: There is no plans currently to have the class at the May race. If that changes it will be announced.
I am going to work on getting this class back on the schedule. The class needs a little more structure and needs someone to promote it on social media. Hopefully we can resurrect a class for the pseudo race cars.

I see they are exploring the idea of running Mean Street. If they follow Holly Springs format that would be a fun alternative to a "Street Car" class:
Holly Springs wrote:Mean Street - ONLY RULE IS TIRE SIZE Any 275 Drag Radial or 10.5 Slick NO W's

Cap will be drawn from a hat before 1st Qualifying run 5.10 - 5.15 - 5.20 - 5.25 - 5.30
Of course that ET range will be a challenge for several of us.

Clyde, If you can get it added I can whore up social media/forums all day every day until the event to help promote.

I am on a computer all day so might as well try to drum up some interest in that class.

And for today's update:
Zach Jones wrote:As of now there won't be anymore classes added to the event with the exception of outlaw 275 MIGHT be added to the October race.

I think everyone liked getting done at 7-8pm and going out to eat in Huntsville afterwards lol Don't want to add too many classes
so that's that. I've asked for clarification on the ET range that will be used for the Radial Fest Mean Street class. I don't expect anyone to tailor a class for me but it sure would be nice if they slow that ET range down just a tad.

Mean street usually draws from a hat for the index. 5.10-5.40 I believe. It forces everyone to dial their car in during qualifying. It mainly came about because X275 got out of hand and there are a ton of cars in that low-mid 5 second et range.

Clyde if the index is 5.30-5.40, bring some C16 and don't look at the numbers I put in the boost controller....just hold on :D

Is the bitching about the rules as bad in these classes as they are in "street" classes? Or is that just a street car thing

I've never been around much of the outlaw/275/mean street racing.

There's alot of bitching across power adder types. The manufacturers are continually trying to get an advantage. When the nitrous guys are faster, the turbo and blower guys bitch and vice versa. The turbo company develops a new wheel within the same dimensions that makes more power, Procharger phases out an old blower and replaces it with something bigger with the same part number....it never ends. The racers are constantly having to change parts to keep up with rule changes so there is no shortage of complaining.

With real street car classes typically everyone wants the rules changed around their car so they don't have to spend money or make any changes. I've been in this since about 95 and its always been that way.

I certainly don't expect anyone to tailor Mean Street rules, but a 5.1 to 5.3 ET range is pretty quick for us street legal guys. Of course Tim Oswalt does it so it's just a matter of how badly one wants to go fast. I did see where Tim's sister is getting married that weekend so he won't be at the spring race.
Maybe I'll just take the regulator off my CO2 bottle & let it eat.

I don't ever see myself spending what it takes to turn a low-5 second pass. I might come up off the wallet enough for a high-6/low-7 pass one day.

Considering how fast you have been with pump gas. I can see 5.3's on race gas.
