Garage Builder recomendations

Post by TT540 » Tue Dec 10, 2019 11:23 am

This has come up on occasion, but searching yielded some pretty old results. the thread about showing the garages/shops was a good one, but I wanted to get some recommendations for a complete turn key multi-car detached garage with upstairs living area (shower/bath/separate bed room). This is for a friend, because I'd be doing my own shit like the miser that I am.

some names from that thread are:

B & M Contracting out of Addison, 256-590-4195
built a metal building.

Danny Whitt Garages

J&J Carpentry
D&L Concreat- David’s Concreat Renovations is his sub for the concrete work.

Don Thomas Construction - not recommended to be used

Any others?

T N B Concrete. Owner's name is Willie. (256) 326-9871

I used David's Concrete to pour my shop floor. Did good on the concrete part. I had permission to have him drive through an empty lot as long as he cleans it up if he makes ruts. He made ruts and never came back to fix it. I had to calm my future irate neighbor down and get my own tractor out there and box blade few spots.

Just so I am clear. TNB concrete is a one-stop shop for a turn key garage?

I used Danny Whitt. He's a pain in the ass to communicate with, but his work is excellent, and he did it for a fraction of my next closest bid. I would work with him again if he would call me back.

Doing it in the cold months when his guys aren't busy will get you a better deal.

I ended up using Rhodes Construction...they came in towards the bottom of the quote list, and gave me their cell #s to be able to easily contact them. Communication was great, with very few hiccups along the way. I am very happy with their work, and would def use them again.

After multiple no shows and never a returned call from danny whitt i gave up hope in him, but i know Chris had good luck with him, and his garage looks nice too.

Months and then threaten lawsuit many times to get him to finish....

Hey Mittens, did he have all or most of the money when he figured it wasn't worth coming back? That is the key I think, hold back 25% to completion and final inspection by you - including clean up.

As for Nemo.. LOL. You have the tractor and box there but expect a concrete guy to scare one up? If he had a Bobcat, sorry I mentioned it.

Nobody does concrete any more without a mini excavator at the very least. You think these dudes are out here digging garage pads with shovels?

He said he would fix the ruts. He didn't fix the ruts. A man is only as good as his word.

No I did not pay him up front.

Paid for concreat work as it was done.
Pad one day, driveway the next.
Paid for block.
Then paid 10k lump for all lumber

Building was up, boxed in and house wrapped in a week.

Week later trimmed windows and door.
So had paid about 1/2 to him little more but then Extra was for concreat.

Then 2 months and dodging calls, use a different number and he answer type shit. Then took screen shots call lawyer. And then had a real threatening convo about TV stations, better business filings, any and every way possible to ruin his fucking name plus lawsuit.

I brick, siding, windows, doors, roof, gutters... and finished in 5 days....... all he had to do was finish it in those 2 months of bull shit was 5 days of work. And the other 1/2 the money.

I used Guy Tucker for my building. 30x50 red iron. His communication was reasonable and the work was decent. Compared to every other story I have few complaints.

^^ I’ve used Guy Tucker before, commercially, with great results. He also does a lot of work with / for Huntsville Utilities.
Can't fix stupid.

Why should I have to change my name? He’s the one that sucks!

Man, this sounds almost exactly like my experience with Don Thomas Construction.
