WTB: Small Roadster

Post by Coondawg_07 » Tue May 19, 2020 4:24 pm

I’m looking for an S2000, older Miata, Toyota Mr2 Spyder, Or something similar. If I can’t find something decent and cheap, I’m going to take the plunge and buy a new MX-5.

welcome back.
Why, thank you. I’ve been lurking around since the site went down for the refresh, and it hasn’t looked too busy. I figured I’d put out a feeler anyway.

What's your budget? Because a nice S2000 is about 3+ times the price of a Miata or MR-SPYDER

I’d like to keep it under $20k. I’ve almost committed to buying a ‘17 MX-5 used. I’ll update the post if I wind up with it.

S2000s are ridiculously priced. Did Honda just make that few of them?

Kinda. But also finding a nice un-molested one is hard these days. They have all been clapped the fuck out mostly....like 03-04 Cobras, 2nd Lightnings, 4th f-bodies, GTO's etc.

And looking on the ol' Wiki I cannot believe they made the S2000 for 10 years(USA). I was thinking like 5-6 years max.

They made a shit load of them. You can get beaters in the 5-6k range, but you'll end up spending the money eventually either way. Might as well buy a good one and just be able to enjoy it. If you hunt around you can get deals on them, buy not in May.

IMO the correct reasonably priced roadster is either:

A 1999-2000 Z3 2.8L, or a 2001-02 3.0L, or possibly an early Z3M S52 car if you can find one that the guy doesn't think is an S54 car. They can be had for pretty cheap, and they're an E30 with a good motor and no roof. They don't have most of the crazy electronics that the E39 and E46 have, and they're still reliable and you can work on them.

or an NA or NB Miata bought in October.

Wanna buy my cayman s? It’s not really nice (needs paint bad) but runs and drives great. I would sell it really cheap.

There is a possibility I would’ve. I just acquired this MX-5 this morning though, and am very happy with my purchase.

Now that I’m not car shopping any time soon, anyone need an autocheck or 10 ran?

I feel like a c5 targa top or maybe a c6 would have almost fit this request. Did the c6’s have targa tips?
