Straight cut gears at high RPMs. Your cars reverse gear is straight cut, so imagine how that would sound at 8+k rpms

well they are straight cut gears but probably uses dog type engagement system. "Dog" type transmissions dont use syncros which allows for very fast clutchless shifting, but are very harsh. There is no "dog" cut gears.

If I ever meet you, I may have to get Nemo to slap you silly.
There's a guy that comes down all the time to Humphrey's with a 6spd Legacy GT specB, I thought it was you for some reason the first time I saw it.

El Diablo:
That was awful!!!!!

Cootie:
The speed related whine was the solid mounted rear end.
Looks like an old BTCC car.In the heyday of the BTCC, there was more money in a top level car than in a new NASCAR Cup car.The Ford Mondeos used destroked Mazda KL-ZE V6s with the cylinder banks cut open and spread apart, and the jack shaft from the transmission run between the banks. The Hondas were even more oddball with triple a-arm suspensions in the front, and H22s leaned back almost to the driver's feet.

Nemo:
Me slapping?

To correct the record back in the Super Touring days of the mid to late nineties teams were spending ass tons of money. The rules changed in 01 (if I remember) to control cost.
The Ford's ran a 2.0 V6 with a stock block. No changes were allowed by the rules to the blocks, engine also had to run in the same orientation it came from the factory.
The Hondas weren't allowed to change the orientation of the engine so Swindon or Neil Brown Engineering figured out how to turn the cylinder heads around on the H22 to allow the intakes to point out the front of the car. With the dry sump these engines were allowed to sit very low and far back in the chassis. They didn't have to really lean them back because with the use of the X-Trac gearbox the engine actually sat behind the axle centerline.Unlike the production vehicle which sits in front of the axles. They used a dual a-arm suspension but it was a modified version to meet the rules that limited how far the pickup points could be moved.
Lots of the development done on these cars was done to work around the rules.Money wasn't as much of a concern.
Here is a video of a Volvo touring car, notice the temperature in the beginning of the video.

Here are some pics of some cars:

Dodge is the only US manufacture to come out and play, they did very well in the NATCC, North American version of the serious, before it ended. The racing was incredibly close.

Cootie:
Unfortunately, the Sport Compact Car website disappeared along with the magazine back in March, so I can't back up my statement, but the last of the Mondeos, like this one:

were run exactly as I claimed, according to a special section that Dave Coleman did in SCC in ~2003, where he discussed this car and the Honda. There was photographic evidence. He also mentioned that the Fords were so sensitive to aero changes that after some coincidence where a rear wiper ended up being left on a car during a dry race, they ran wipers on all the Fords from then on, as it made them significantly faster, thanks to additional rear downforce.

Image?I don't see no stinkin' image?
Anyway here is some more info on the Nissans of those days.

1.1 Land vehicle
A locomotive device propelled by its own means, moving by constantly taking real support on the earth's surface, of which the propulsion and steering are under the control of a driver aboard the vehicle.

awesome rule right there. leave no room for a loop hole! simple wording and straight to the point. the guys that wrote this need to right our tax laws!

smracing:
I agree, if our tax law were this simple, damn we would have money flowing into this country like water.Fairtax.org.
