The work they're doing downtown is nothing short of outstanding. Downtown Decatur is amazing on the weekends. Open container within the entertainment area, great restaurants and music venues.

I'll try to get in on this deal.

we will start in march,on the 21st. cars start getting there around 3:30 -4;00 and it is officially over at 9:00. but that don't mean ya gotta leave. it will be some growing pains because of new location, but I think this will really be a great place because of all the great places to eat,and more shops for the family

^this is correct. Cars will more then likely be in both locations since it has grown so much.

From b a king on HCS.

They want to try the arts center as a entrance, but you won't be turned away if you show up at another gate. I would suggest that if its full and you don't want to go to bank street, use the art center parking lot. If you have any questions send me a e-mail. ask me! The folks where the show was in the past really want cars there again .

Had another blast! Looks like this thing is beginning to grow big time. The only issues I saw was with the Corvette guys. They were a little upset because of the helpers telling them to go to Bank Street. When they got there, no one was there (car related) but them. So, they were secluded away from all of the other car crowd. Really ticked some of them off. It would be cool if somehow they could open up some of the side roads on 2nd for the cars to park so that all of the car crowd could be together.

Splitting it up between bank street and 2nd isn't going to work. They need to go ahead and block off moulton St and have the event in one location. I understand them wanting to keep people at bank street but that is to far from 2nd ave which is where most people want to be.

Thanks guys that's what I've been trying to tell them. When I started the cruise in, the only reason I went to bank st was because of the construction on 2nd. Cant close moulton st because it is a truck route. i'll see if I can work on that part. There are some folk on bank who are not happy and beain a PIA . Guy called the FD on a car fri nite saying he was in fire ln. almost got the guys car towed. Luckily I knew whos car it was and got it moved. The option to go to bank is there ,but it sure appears that nobody wants to go. BUT ,BUT , I did offer to start Bank st their on cruise on a Sat night, at no cost to them if thay wanted me to. its up to them. I'll do all the work for that one to.I think 2nd ave is here to stay!! and thanks for coming.

my understanding on the vettes was that a business owner on bank street made a deal with a vette club to park up there. I guess that the "volunteers' that they had thought that all vette were members of the club. Folks, we have non car people trying to get involved here. I will do my best to give any info on ANY CHANGES that happen. As far as balloons, I figure the wind was a little strong for them that night. I had to leave a little early to get to work, but I was told a band that they had on bank street where no one was at, packed up and moved to 2nd ave and had people dancing in the street.!!!

Bank St should be considered dead since the addition of the eating joints on 2nd. I hate it for those business owners but the 3rd Friday action isn't going to be there. They will need to look into getting something else that works for them. The majority of the people want to be on 2nd closer to the eating joints.

Or they can figure out a way to shuttle people from 2nd to Bank. A laid back ride of some sort just to add a little more for people to do.

The night I was there I never realized there was a bus. I'm sure it goes for a good cause but I was thinking more along the lines of some sort or carriage or something that would lure families to take a ride. The people looking foe entertainment and beer will probably just stay on 2nd where the crowd will be.

I seen DPD harassing a guy in CBR 1000rr for leaving early and riding his bike down 2nd ave. the guy told the cop it was a car and bike show and the cop
Told he would go to jail for talking back to him. Needless to say that was an interesting conversation in front of a lot of people. Of course the CBR clutched it and make tons of noise leaving

Aside from the drunk guy falling on my car and then hanging on the side of it to tell me it sounded awesome when I was leaving I had fun. I also saw a lot of people touching cars. That's just my number 1 pet peeve.

Well that's Decatur for ya. They let the drunks roam around (who knows, it might be a councilman) and then the cops hassle the car people.

From what I've heard, he is making all cars be there before 5:00 if you want to park in the car area. If you do make it in by 5:00, he will not allow you to leave until after 9:00. No exceptions. Hopefully this will be fixed but I know this is how the police chief said it was going to be enforced.

I'm not sure even how he could enforce that. If I don't get there by 5 I'm not allowed to park my car in the show? If I do get there in time I cant leave until 9:00? Sumtin aint right. Wink Wink Wink

Agreed. Some how when ever the city officials get involved with something that was started by someone else it fails. And screws it up for everyone.

Leave it to someone in the city to poke their chest out and ruin the best thing to happen to downtown in the 39 years I've lived here. The entire city is overrun with idiots. We need guys like Shawn Holmes to climb the ladder and straighten this crap out. Last I heard alot of people were going to protest downtown and moe's in the target shopping center was going to be the replacement. I hate that because downtown is where it's at if they can get this sorted out with the police.

If this can't be worked out , I will ask for all to do something else on 3rd Friday. I was told that the city would get involved and screw it up 3 years ago. I guess they were right. I will keep you posted on what happens.

From Huntsville Car Scene.com: http://www.huntsvillecarscene.com/showthread.php?p=90260#post90260#ixzz387nlqt3z

ALL, after a 90 min meeting this morn I think we have come to a understanding. !st. safety is the utmost concern. For everybody! Do not want to get anyone hurt. I think the next event will determine how the future goes. We asked for other side street to be open ,Moulton street to be closed. You may be asked to help other cruisers in/out which most already do. Lets be a little understanding of every thing.the city understands where we stand. It should all work out for the good. Let’s hope it does. I would hate to see Decatur loose this event which I don’t think it will

What about the 3-5 and 5-9 time? No one leaves, no one enters? Assigned parking places?
DB - Mon Jul 21, 2014 3:41 pm
Post subject:
I can understand the time frame. It sucks for people who can't get off early but to be totally honest the event has gotten so large that if your not there by 430 or 5 you won't be parking on the main street anyway. I think many want to leave before 9 but at least now they know what's expected if you want to display your car.
b a king - Tue Jul 22, 2014 3:35 am

leaving before nine should not be a issue. maybe 6 instead of 5 arrival time. give them the next event and see how it works out.

Ok this week.
PARKING, the only spot that has limited access is on 2nd between Moulton st and driveway to the art center. no entrance after 6, and prefer you don't leave until 9.
also some of the side streets will be open half way down for parking.
give it a shot see how it works
